With the crippled jokes getting old, let’s finish this.

A quick recap:

This thing showed up out of nowhere in 4chan on 4th January 2007, influencing users to generate tons of ideas, from love stories to bad ends… and effectively uniting them to produce an actual (free) game that we hold in our hands today.
The original omake was created by RAITA of Zettai Shoujo in Comiket 61, back in December 2000. No one knew who colored it though.
Four Leaf Studios was formed by amateurs of varying nationalities and backgrounds, and it took them 5 years of painstaking efforts to bring about (some may call it “tear-jerking”) one of the most mature (in the right way) stories in the sub-culture.

The protagonist, Hisao, suffers from arrhythmia which triggered a heart attack during a snowy winter when his crush confessed to him. Well, it sent him to the hospital where he spent months for the sake of being ‘observed’.As the story goes, his rethinking and personality change would depend on the player.
Cue it.

On a side note, Misha's infamous laughter is prominent in my class...

Hard to think of them being at least 18.
To make things easier, I would not disclose any thoughts about the characters for I disabled the adult content.
Just kidding, read on.

First and last impressions are that Emi is a very fun girl. Being an optimistic athlete, she strives to become the best runner… without legs.
Her route portrays typical teenage love relationships, and I’m rather surprised by the number of *censored* FLS has made for her route. Sure made this a tolerably realistic potrayal…Of course, it is without dere-dere moments, plights and seriousness.

Hanako’s route presents probably the best psychological story in this game. Hanako is scarred, both physically and mentally, which brought her to extreme self-consiousness.
FLS made the narration captivating and immerses the player into the story. ’nuff said. However, the eventual relationship between Hanako and Hisao subsequently form under equal terms, rather than the very much predictable protective character than one would lazily depict.

Unfortunately, my say is that Lily’s route feels like a regular love story. The good points about her story are it is easily adaptable, and (almost!) free of friction and conflicts. Here’s a backup if this is too short.

One word to describe: Complex. I had to quote someone else:

I haven’t commented much on Rin’s path. Mostly because… I don’t know what to make of it. I actually like Rin… But at the same time, I understand… The part of me that is an artist, feels it… That disorder, those thoughts that cannot be conveyed through words, and sometimes not even pictures. Nothing can bring that wall down. Absolutely nothing. Because it’s what makes you tick, what makes you work. and the closer they try to get to you, the more it will hurt them because its a wall that is made of broken things of you

I had fun imagining Hisao trying to “talk” to Shizune while Misha was grinning beside them.
Shizune, being the student council president, some may call her cocky, while others call her tsundere, well, later in the story one might feel like Keima. While Misha is being hyper and all, there is no harem involved as the story is supposed to be focused on Shizune herself. Story’s as straightforward as her.

Final thoughts:

This game can be easily compared with any of Key’s visual novels
(eg. Air, Rewrite, Clannad, Kanon)
Although made by a bunch of amateurs, Katawa Shoujo is a very psychological visual novel, which screws with our misleading image of everyday life. It even became a subject of study in Panola College by Professor Don Martinez due to its “redemptive” ability. Impressive, and overwhelming indeed.
Disability aside, Katawa Shoujo is more about dealing with personal problems, making it even more compelling and appealing as a whole. (Even the disabled wish to be able to live independently too!)
…but the M18 made it unappealing to some.

Samsung Galaxy S3 – Effortlessly smart? Maybe?

*This is not a review, just my tots on the SIII*
It looks really good and the features aren’t that bad~ hmm~ too bad the one thing they didn’t brag about is the batt life even thou it has a 2100mah batt…

It comes in 2 colours, marble white and pebble blue. In my opinion, the marble white looks just like any other white colour… while the blue is blue? Perhaps it might really have a few grains of nature in it…

The other item that strikes me is how the hands free function works, Hi buddy… Imagine you’re on a train and someone just shout that out~ I wonder how many phones will start listening for commands.

The number of prank calls will rise, i believe, still it might be a nice feature to have, I’m guessing.

You can also take a picture just using a the voice command.

Then there is the sleep function, I’m sure the people over at google will be damn happy that their face recognition API used for unlocking in the galaxy nexus is finally going to be well utilized.

However given that people gets freak out so easily nowsadays, everyone will have some privacy concern, esp in some western countries.

I can see the headlines~

“It’s looking at you” or “it sees” or “Watching you it is” type of things.

Material wise, disappointingly, Samsung being Samsung chose to use plastic again. From the people who touched it, some say it feels light. But is it flimsy or solid like the new phones recently. I don’t know.

For now thou, I think the price of the phone will not exceed SGD900 since the similarly spec’ed but extremely well built HTC ONEx cost only SGD898 without contract. hmm…

It’s expected to be released 29 May worldwide. Not too long a wait then~ Android is fun!

Ever wished you can play Macross games on your smart phones?
Well, now you can BDNA, the joint venture between the publisher Namco Bandai Games and the social game company DeNA will be releasing the “Macross Cross Sp de Culture” . Also revealing changing the venture name to BNDeNA.

NAMCO BANDAI Games Inc., DeNA Co., Ltd. and their joint venture company BDNA Inc. rebranded BDNA as BNDeNA Inc. The new name represents the two companies’ commitment to combine their strengths.

It’s free game to be downloaded, however you will required a mobage account to login and play the game. However there are certain elements that need to be unlocked with pre-payment.

Although the game is titled as a social, not a casual game that can be played with a single button, it will incorporate elements of both action shots. The tentatively titled social game will not be a casual game which can be played with one button, but a game that incorporates both shooting and action elements.

It will be using the Unity Game Graphics for 3-D effects. For the movements of the singer characters, the game will use “Live2D” technology that Namco Bandai has used in Haruhi Suzumiya, Oreimo, Haganai & Tokimeki Girl’s games to animate 2D graphics as if they were 3D.

The game will also be featuring the Singers and Mecha from the Macross Series. There are 3 elements in the game the Singer,My Machine and Battle.

Katawa Shoujo: Clouds in My Head

I admit, this was my least favourite route in this game…
Especially right after my first prelims. (I’ll talk about it later.)

Couldn't agree more.

Rin, born with arm defects (or simply just stumps), wears a boy’s uniform because using feet with skirts on isn’t cool. At first glance, she’s emotionless — totally nonchalant — but still, she’s a human.
Daydreaming and abstract ideas aside, anyone can easily call her an artist.
But she has no idea why she’s even painting.
Well, that’s up to you to find out. ^^

So you have heard, so have I… Unfortunately we are not prestigious enough to get an invite to the Singapore launch event… Sian…

Thus all i got was a hand on by KAI from Digital Rev TV, and I’m already drooling… DID YOU SEE THE ISO PERFORMANCES!!!

In DRTV’s video Hands-on, there is a part where ISO for the camera is adjusted to the max of 51200 on both the MKII and MKIII, guess which one won… duh obviously…

That alone might be enough to make me want to get one since I’m already using a CANON 7D, maybe in next year I’ll finally upgrade to a Full Frame~

Phones A lot~ at MWC

Today we goto Spain with some of the phones that caught my eyes~

Currently happening in Barcelona is the Mobile World Congress(MWC) and major brands in the industry this time have really pushed on to release many good looking, powerful and androidlious phones~

HTC ONE S above is equipped with Qualcomm’s 1.5Ghz dual core, a 4.3″ qHD screen a good camera and Sense 4 UI, HTC’s custom skin for their Android phone.

Looks wise it’s really quite amazing with the slight curved screen and rounded candy bar form factor with 1 piece aluminium construct, thou this time it’s strengthen.

It looks so good that, that Fruit company better don’t copy it!

The ONE family also includes the X or XL and V, depending on where you are.

Next, Sony Xperia S,

It’s now officially SONY and no longer SONY ERICSSON~ And their first NXT series will be bring us the Xperia S.

A blockly effort i should say, but i comes also equipped for the dual-core war with 1.5 Ghz and 1 GB ram. The phone still runs ginger bread but will spot ICS very soon.

Next at ASUS, they show off the PADPhone, like finally.

I seriously thought the idea died in the process of designing. But it seems, the engineers at Asus managed to find a way to fit everything.

A tablet station and even a keyboard dock for the tablet station. The phone has the specification similar to the above with 1.5Ghz Dual Core Snapdragon, 4.3″ qHD screen and a 8mp camera. It comes with ICS and supposedly in April.

Looks wise, it’s actually good! And the Stylus headset is really kind of cool too!

Hmm… This is getting interesting but I wonder how much it’s going to be… Haiz…

ASUS also pushed out some of their new Transformer Class, with one equipped with LTE and etc. Not bad I guess.

Other attention seekers includes the Iphone/Galaxy SII look alike from both Orange and Huawei,

Orange’s offering is actually the first time an intel processor is featured in a phone, further more it’s a X86 processor. Don’t know if it’s just a tech demo, but i have feeling it will be failing quite badly…

Huawei went to MWC with yet another of their Iphone/Galaxy SII look alikes, the Ascend D Quad, equipped with their own Quad Core processor and comes with ICS.

The non-android offerings current only features the few from, NOKIA, with their Lumia series and the 41.1MP PUREVIEW 808 Camera phone which is running on SYMBIAN.

The PUREVIEW comes with a whooping 41.1MP camera equiped with Carl Ziess lens. Other then that, it’s really a normal phone with a 1.3 Ghz processor, 4″ screen and running the latest version of Symbian.

BTW, the other other offering by NOKIA are just the cheaper or bigger version of their LUMIA 700 or a feature phone… So nothing to see here… Oh ok here’s a video of the bigger Lumia 900.

With 4.3″ screen, it’s indeed bigger with a 1.4 Ghz processor running 7.5 Mango. Other stuff remains largely the same… No extra features to talk of…

It’s selling point? A big screen windows phone, I guess… Well it’s a niche market, i guess…

So far, it like this, and i have already even filtered out some of the phones, like SAMSUNG’s new BEAM… God that’s ugly… or the offering from ZTE and LG…

But as of now, the Galaxy SIII from Samsung is still in Rumor stage, some say it will have 4.3″ screen as well… But given the competition now, it better do with at least a 1.5Ghz Dual Core.

P.S.: If only I have the money to buy the HTC ONE, SONY Xepria S and the ASUS PADPhone… … OTL… I want this 3 cos they look so wonderful~

Mercedes Presents~ Madoka Magica smart fortwo

Mercedes Benz recently presented the Madoka Magica Itasha, of their eco battery powered car, the Smart Fortwo.

This is as part of the 15th Japan Media Arts Festival happening from now till the 4th of March in Tokyo.

In additional to being just a display, participants of the festival can also take the car for a drive, as long as they have a valid driving licenses and above 20 years old.

Those below 20 can also drive, but with an accompanying guardian.

So here’s a chance to bring Madoka and Homura for a joy ride~ remember it’s for 2~
