At the EOY we have many new dojin artists and the one that I want to feature is Tofu Doll, a 15 year old lady that if you didn’t ask… would have thought to be a bit younger.

Her style is more of a adding on to the stick figure, giving it the missing substances and the subject character yet remains the simple feel.

Here is a sample of her work drawing Chiya,

Isn’t Chiya cute?~ of cos Tofu doll have more works than this and she is selling them at the EOY11, So you have missed it~

But well Tofu doll has now setup her new facebook page, so you can track her movement and maybe even get to buy some of her stuff in the next event.

MEDIA RELEASE

For Immediate Release

WORLD-RENOWNED TOKYO GIRLS COLLECTION TO MAKE ITS PREMIERE IN SINGAPORE
Plugged as the fashion event of the year, WORLD RUNWAY to present fashion
in a whole new format

13 September 2011, Singapore – WORLD RUNWAY, organised by the team behind
Tokyo Girls Collection and Asia Girls Explosion, will premiere in Singapore on 18
September 2011 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

During the event, rising fashion stars from eight countries around the world- Brazil,
France, Italy, Japan, Russia, Singapore, UK and USA- will compete with each other in
the first-ever global fashion faceoff. The challenge? To scour Singapore’s most
fashionable streets to create 10 runway looks each.

“Runway shows that feature high-priced, artsy pieces are aplenty.” says Jake f.R.,
Director for WORLD RUNWAY. “WORLD RUNWAY aims to share with Singaporean
ladies street-fashion that is practical and affordable. Some call us the “anti-fashion”
show because we interpret fashion shows so differently. We feel that there is so
much more than just fashion alone- it is also about the music and the love. Fashion
without the music is not a show. And a show without love is a performance without
soul.” He added.

A FASHION, ART AND MUSIC AFFAIR

WORLD RUNWAY is indeed more than just a runway show, it is an extravaganza that
will feature live music performance. Korean pop-star, Se7en, will also be performing
at the event.

THE GLOBAL FASHION FACEOFF

For the first time in the history of the fashion world, teams from the world’s eight
fashion capital- Brazil, France, Italy, Japan, Russia, Singapore, UK and USA- will be
brought together to compete, challenging their ability to put together runway looks
with pieces bought from local shops within just two days.

Each participating country will form a team of three- fashion director, make-up artist
and hair stylist. And their final runway looks will be modelled by 40 models appointed
by the World Runway Committee.

The team and their participating members are:

presentation and indie music, it will also be sharing some of its love with people and
countries that are suffering from natural disasters. A portion of the World Runway
profits will be donated as Fashionquake Aid to natural disaster relief activities around

ABOUT TOKYO GIRLS COLLECTION

Tokyo Girls Collection (TGC) show is the biggest bi-annual fashion festival in Japan.
Launched in August 2005, this event combines the country’s top fashion brands with
popular music acts. The TGC show has established itself as the epicenter of Japan’s
“kawaii,” or cute culture, a culture that has gained a global following in recent years.

While models strut their cutesy, fashion-forward looks down the runway, organisers
are careful to pick out pieces that are practical and affordable to the audience.
Unlike most fashion shows where big brands unveil high-priced looks on the runway
months before they reach retailers, outfits featured at the TGC show can be
purchased immediately, for an affordable price.

Touted as a “fashion festival for Japanese real clothes”, the 11th TGC 2010 last
September saw a total of 30,200 attendees.

organised by the Association of Comic Artists Singapore (ACAS) in collaboration with
Moontique & Story Kitchen. A FAB (Fun, Art & Biz) initiative that seeks to enlighten and
entertain an audience of all ages, CXC 2011 is a convergence of ideas that were brought
together under one umbrella and will feature the following programs:
Seminar – Bazaar – Workshops – 24 Hour Comics Day
Let’s Talk Comics & Business Seminar: For the very serious but inexperienced enthusiast, a number of esteemed local speakers from the world of comics, manga and graphic novels
will give a series of talks, specific to the subject matter and how it also affects numerous
vertical markets. Subjects include everything from the merits of quality writing and
draughtsmanship, to the essentials of presentation, publishing, distribution and new digital platforms. Attendees will have a chance to bring along their story and art portfolios to
obtain on-the-day critiques and maybe even land a trial assignment.
Adm: $70 per session. $56 after 20% early bird discount*. $110 package price for both days.
CXPO Bazaar: For those in search of out-and-out fun! A dedicated artists realm will be the place to go to purchase inspiring local comics and artwork. Focused pop culture retailers will add to the festival feeling, offering generous discounts on leading books, merchandise and apparel. Not forgetting the open invitation to cosplayers, courtesy of CosAsia – Singapore’s premier costume retailer and purveyor of the fever, will have their own special 50+ strong entourage present! The life & souls of any party, the best dressed on the day will have the chance to walk away with top value sponsored prizes, ranging from free books and manga, to posters and movie tickets.
Adm: $FREE.

CXC Captions and Actions Workshops: There are many forms of writing, and few are as unique as comics — the Captions Workshop will teach and demonstrate basic fundamentals of plot building, story structuring and how to develop narrative and character dialogue. For those artists who are curious about how to create their own characters and concepts — the Actions Workshop is just the place to be, sharing potent knowledge on how to generate vibrant story character visuals, and how to integrate them meaningfully as part of a concept.
Captions & Actions Workshops are for anyone age 12 or above (including mature adults!). All classes are devised & conducted by Senior Members & Associates of the Association of
Comic Artists (Singapore) (ACAS). Prizes will be given to the best students over the two days, including cutting edge digital devices that can aid in all aspects of comic creation.
Adm: $110 package price for both days. $88 after 20% early bird discount*.

24 Hour Comics Day @ CXC: For the very serious and most proficient comes this
incorporated international event – the challenge is to produce a 24-page comic in 24 hours. The event was successfully launched in Singapore last year with 30 participants, and this year it is expected to generate even greater interest. The stories completed will be
shortlisted for possible publication in December. This is not a competition, but a challenge for oneself. Uncompleted works are dubbed ‘Noble Failures’, so there is no shame in failure here, because all efforts embrace the spirit of the challenge and remain worthy of
celebration. They can be completed after the event and still be considered for publication.
Adm: FREE.

*Early bird rate is available till Sept 15 2011.
Tickets available from www.GATECRASH.com.sg or GATECRASH Hotline: 6100 2005

Association of Comic Artists (Singapore) (ACAS) was formed in 2005 by a group of professional & semiprofessional
Singapore-based cartoonists, all of whom had in their portfolio previously published work. ACAS has been active in workshops & seminars, promoting & demonstrating the art form of pictorial storytelling.
Along with art competition judging tasks, ACAS has been visible in much local media promoting the positives
that come from comics.

Since it’s August, and it’s Singapore’s National Day soon. I would like to do a series of short reviews of Singapore Comics, published in the nation’s 45th year of existent.

First up is a comic named, Gone Case. It’s much like a social representation, seen from the eyes of a 12 year old, Primary Six School Leaving Exam(PSLE) taking boy facing a huge change in his family, bounded with a impending major exam.

His circumstances forced him to grow-up quickly in order to become the man of the Family.

I must say, Gone Case, is much more of an experiment to me, putting a certain perspective to the matters I have seen on news paper or TV drama.

Art-wise, it’s should be considered in the Sub surrealism area. With a clear western influence, and it’s really quite good. See for yourself.

<a href="http://ani-culture.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/MG_5665.jpg" rel="lightbox[9393]" title="“>

But I have a grip on the story, even thou the story are quite realistic, the way the author jump from 1 end to the other without proper closure or even a link is disorienting for me as a reader.

For example, the part where Ah Yong(the main Character) is promoted to be a prefect, it adds no merit to the story and nothing much other then to remind him of his father. I see no point. It would be good if the stress of being a prefect shows as well, even the expectation of the teacher pushing on him would have made the clif-hanging ending better.

And many other areas where things are left hanging only to be cut off then on to the next point.

In additional to the above, I feel that this book is too short and would really like to see Ah Yong’s life play out, for the better or for the worse… Since the Comic ended on a major turning point of his life.

Overall, I would recommend this book to those looking for a more serious topic to read about. Social science students should really take a look at it, it could be better then the chicken soup thingy… Just don’t expect a ending yet…

Title: Gone Case the Graphic Novel, Book 1
Story by: Dave Chua, based on the novel of the same name, published in 1996.
Art by: Koh Hong Teng
Price: $18.90
Published: Dec 2010
Where to Buy: Kinokuniya, Liang Court

Gone Case reminds me of 1 of the “Star of Shine” awarded yesterday at the closing of the Shine Youth Festival. Mr. Mohammed Farhan Bin Mohd Firdaus, 25, another the same age as me, that managed to make a difference.

Maybe I’ll do a short entry on them later on in the week or tomorrow.

It’s really Inspiring~

This coming weekend, some dojins studios will be participating in an event at Downtown East.

The event is known as the Comics World, a out shoot event from the annually held Cosfest. The event starts at 12pm, and close at 7pm for both day.

And Just a note… … I dislike the way the organizers of Cosfest and Comicworld are promoting their event… they suck… I can’t find any information any where… … Not even a booth layout list… … And God their website is so 1995… … … Thus… I’ve just copy the description of the event from the CDS post. Still do visit it, for the great dojin booths attending the event. Both mentioned and not mentioned by me.

And here I have 2 groups to introduce,

First, Teru Teru, that go away rain, doll.Booth 35

Guess they will need it for a successful event. XD

This time, they will be selling Ano Hana Time Capsule Set!

And it will only be $5 a set~ What a steal~ But that’s all for now…

It’s will be extremely entertaining to see what else they will be bringing out~ Like that Madoka Sticker tikam(Lucky draw) they did at SOYC.

They are situated at booth 35. Teru Teru is found last EOY and have already participated in quite a few events. You can find their Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/circleteruteru and their website.

Next is a relatively new team,

Metronome, booth ??

And they are attack this Comics World with a T-Shirts!

Also from Ano Hana~

The Sexy Anaru, <a href="http://ani-culture.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/259561_174710915921955_174708795922167_451195_1257151_o.jpg" rel="lightbox[8764]" title="“><a href="http://ani-culture.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/264118_174887402570973_174708795922167_452241_6019325_n.jpg" rel="lightbox[8764]" title="“>
