ANIBEE.tv, the latest regional anime portal is offering streaming services with a good range of popular anime titles like Hanasaku Iroha, DOGS, Dragon Crisis and etc. For full list please scroll down.

They even have pay-per-view movies. Currently, they are offering Doraemon Movie and Power Ranger Samurai for a small price.

For now, those might not be a lot, but for a relatively new entry to the scene, Anibee managed to keep constant with some good shows.

And recently, there is a move to include more classic like “Prince Of Tennis” and “Crayon Shin-chan” in 2012.

It’s also great to know that it’s ran by IMMG part of the Asatsu-DK(ADK) group in Japan, a major advertising, creative, and Anime distributor.

Currently the site allows members to watch 2 episode of available series, free of charge online at 480p, while paid members get to catch the entire season up to 10 times per month at 720p.

And with that, we have come to the end of 2012 Request Hour!

With the exclusion of unit songs, we have come to see a lot of stage songs making returns with Team K’s songs from various stages occupying most of it while Team A & B took about half of the stage appearances. For the top, while many would have predict that the million breakers for 2100 will seal the no.1 spot but it is still claimed by last year’s no.1 Heavy Rotation. Personally, I would given my vote for that as well.

Another surprised packed day too, with NMB’s 2 singles appearing today along with SKE Team KII’s new stage song “Omatase Set List”. The usual top songs that have appeared in the final RH days were there though they have slightly dipped in rankings.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the first 2 days of RH 2012 screening were missed as GV canceled it, but so glad for me to make it at the final 2 days, great performances, even superb MC by the members as it contains the whackiest MC I have seen in concerts for a long while.

Right after the end of the ranking, a video clip was played, and it was very very surprised packed.

Have you ever wondered will the AKB48 members get to play instruments for a song LIVE? Well, apparently, Aki-P has thought of this and had the members practiced with various instruments for a upcoming single. The end product? “Give Me Five”. And we were treated to the sight of the girls getting to befriend their respective instruments at the start.

We have Takamina on the lead guitar, with the 2nd guitar by Acchan, Yuko on the bass, Yukirin on the drums. Yes, Yukirin ON the drums. Nyannyan and Mayuyu on the keyboard, Yuihan and Rena on the trumpets. Trombone, we have Miichan and Sashi, percussion by Mariko, Tomochin and Jurina. Of course not forgetting Akicha, Kitarie, Sae, Chiyuu and Sayanee on the chorus!

Clearly, this is a very very pleasant surprise for everyone in the TDC Hall, cinemas all over Japan, HK, Taiwan, Thailand and here in GV Vivo! And of they went, performing “Get Me Five” for the first time to fans band version! Well, don’t expect them to really do what other specialized bands can do, but they did a pretty good job out of it despite their short time given to practice among the hectic schedules they have normally.

For the very first concert of the year, pretty well done and now up next is their March concert in Saitama Super Arena from 23-25 March!

Spread over 4 days, members from ALL 48 groups will be performing songs as voted by fans in this top 100 countdown. So for yesterday’s performance, it covers ranked 100 to 76.

This year’s request hour will be void of unit songs so the likes of No Sleeves, French Kiss will not be performing nor their songs are in the voting list last year. Which means, we can get to see more of the stages songs which was probably pushed out back in 2011.

Let’s move over to the last quarter of the ranking.

Right before the concert began, fans were treated to a surprise and a shock. The official rival of AKB48, NGZ46 took the stage for the opening act with their new song set to debut next month. Well, given that NGZ is under Aki-P’s care, it doesn’t really matter(to him anyway).

After that surprise(and shock probably) is over, the 100th song in the ranking began.

All in all, day 1 has quite a fair chunk of team K songs appeared, a total of 7 whereas its only 3 each for teams A & B. Good choice by management to remove the unit songs else they will be eating up a portion of the rankings based on 2011 results. Of course, the usual popular unit songs haven yet to appear, the speculation now is where will they stand, is it right at the last day in top 25, or their popularity waned and appears right at 75 onwards?

The only way is to keep along as day 2 will begin this evening! And personally, I can’t wait for day 3 to arrive as I will be watching the LIVE screening in GV theater!

She unlike most of the group, portraits a cowardly character and one still learning the ropes. But sometimes on the verge of being too daring on some occasions.

Her basic specification are also “so-so” at 156cm tall, and a 3 size of 73, 53, 81.5, she is as normal as any other girl in Japan. But why is she so lovable?

Why? It has much to do with her underlying character, as an Wota herself. Thus she can relate with fellow fans and not alienate them. I saw it first hand when she was in Singapore for a short cafe event last year.

She just have that power to draw people in and start a simple yet fun conversation. I was very impressed. It’s the best Cafe for 2011, I reckon. 

During events, there are always awkward moments but its usually washed away by her passion in answering or speaking to the fans. She just seems so understanding, humble, approachable and sincere.

Which in turn makes the fans want to protect her, not because she is weak but she’s just such a good person to be with.

In my opinion, she would make a mighty fine waifu~ If there is a tsudere, then what category is she in?

2011 has been a wonderful year for Ani-Culture- we went overseas, gained new comrades, became recognized media partners for prominent events and most importantly, We survived another year! Yes, survived…

As a parting tribute to an exciting 2011, We take a look back at some key moments.

Consternation (means Distress, shock),

A lot happened in 2011, but the events of March 2011 probably lingers the most in our minds. We almost made our first trip to Japan to attend the first ever Anime Content Expo and A Fes, but with barely two weeks to go, disaster struck.

The Tohoku Earthquake hit me personally on many levels,  superficially, my ORD holiday is gone. We fretted as over a year of plans were washed away in mere moments, and needless to say, I was sorely disappointed- but that was superficial. I was more worried for the well-being of my friends in Japan; May’n Japanese Fanclub Buins and friends who I had gotten to know so well online.

The Tohoku Earthquake gave us a sense of purpose- for days We frantically combed the net via Twitter, Facebook and official news sources for any nugget of information on the developing situation and did what we could to share it with others.

While Ani-Culture did not pool a sum of money for Japan, I am proud to say that every one of our writers did contribute in other ways to help stem the pain. For this I thank the crew of Ani-Culture.net and our readers.

Done with the unhappy stuff…

Captivation and Change

If you have been following Ani-Culture over the past year, you would have noticed a distinct expansion in the topics We write about- from a site focused almost entirely on Anime, We  now cover more mainstream aspects of Japanese Pop Culture like J-Pop, idols and even a little drama.

Why? One reason-AKB48. This mega-idol group has totally captivated me for the last six months. Usually, its not my kind of thing- but for some reason, AKB48 hooked me, line and sinker. Seeing how dedicated and devoted they are to their art, I just felt I needed to cheer for them.

And correspondingly , my life has become more “3D” and I now follow Oricon style, Tokyohive amongst an ever growing list. And more recently, I think I have fallen in love?

Of course, the fact that they are performing in Singapore on a monthly basis, does little to cure the addiction… However, it is due to AKB48 that I have managed to improve Ani-culture’s working relationship with other parties. Like Eriol of kitsunesuki, a certain PR lady and her colleagues, and alavista- proving things just work better in the company of friends. All in all, AKB48 has changed me in many ways.

Significantly, 2011 marked the first steps in my quest in learning Japanese, and has opened many more doors for me.

Our emphasis on AKB48 is not the only major change Ani-culture has undergone. We wanted to go beyond just Singapore- expanding our focus to events in our neighours Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines, and that would have only been possible with the tireless efforts of our overseas writers. Moving forward, We hope to ramp up our efforts in covering regional events and make Ani-Culture known throughout all of South-East Asia.

It might sound to be a lofty goal, but I firmly believe that it is possible. In fact, more than 50% of the site views already comes from the South East Asia region. We hope to build on this and make Ani-Culture a regional brand. After all, We all love Japanese Culture!

While We could not head to Japan, We decided to go for the next best thing- Hong Kong. We gained valuable insight in the local Japanese Pop Culture Scene, ate some amazing food and see May’n rock the house in her Asia tour-  which one of our friends contributed in detail in the Guang Zhou Article.

Our grand achievement for 2011 is…

Our Facebook page is also a lot more active now and currently we have 1047 likes. We are really thankful for everyone’s support of our page. And getting to that wonderful 1000 are just wonderful!

In fact, once we figure out how to use the Google+ properly, we will also be promoting our G+ page. I hope everyone give us their support then!

Plans for the Site

Currently I am forever planning for better things, like finding a nicer design or getting a better plug-in. Although, I must say, my skills are not really up to par… both in the design and coding department XD.

So in the near future, I might just get someone to help out with the design so as to achieve a better looking and feeling site, and make the browsing experience for readers even better- whilst striving to improve the quality of writing on the site.

Looking forward

I certainly hope Ani-Culture.net will be able to increase its readership and while retaining our solid base of regulars. For me personally, I hope to bring you more interesting Japan related information, while at the same time improve my Japanese and even attend a Japanese University by end of the 2012.

I am also glad that I have made it this far, maintaining my pace of about one post a day on the average. I am proud that I did not throw in the towel even when things were less than…ideal.

I hope to continue writing and at the same time, allow more to write and be read. If you have written a good article but have nowhere to publish it, do send it to me, and if it’s good, We will definitely publish it for you on Ani-Culture.

All in all, I am so glad that CDJapan managed to get this concert set in their catalog given that AKB48 concert DVDs are usually available at their own online stores which don’t ship overseas.

I had managed to watched a short opening from the day 1 and quite an opening it was, all out Majisuka Gakuen themed opening with the members stepping out in groups from Team Hormon, Fondue, then the rival yankees from Yabakune made their appearance as well. Which then of course, the current and the original Rappapa members appeared one by one before Acchan finally came out.

That’s pretty much what I have seen before saving it for the long holidays ahead.

This was quite an unexpected event; we got from this year’s Comic Fiesta.

After redeeming the pass from the Comic Fiesta counter, I’m told that there’s a meet and greet with the special guests Shimokawa Mikuni and Ceui, exclusively for the media group.

WHAAT?! That means an interview session? We’re not prepared at all! Σ(ﾟДﾟ)

The organizer even provided a private room a mist the battle field of Comic Fiesta where we can sit down properly and do an interview session.(If not, it’d be one disaster of an interview session).

The questions during the interview session are totally unprepared for all media and yet the questions are unbelievablely interesting, not like an unprepared question! （・∀・
）

Q1 : What are the impressions that you have for your first visiting to Malaysia?
Ceui: It’s a climate season continuing in Malaysia for the whole year, not just only the weather is hot and like summer day in Japan, the people here are hot too.

[I think she just refer us as hot guy too （´∀｀**）].

When I visit the shops and have a little chit-chat with the people around here, I felt that the Malaysian are a whole lot more cheerful and fun. Maybe in this hot country, the Malaysian also have a warmer personality just like the hot weather here.

Q2: What element inspired you in your ani-song performance and how did you perform so well in each song that you participated in? As your song are not just loved by the Japanese, but also worldwide including Malaysia.

Shimokawa: For me, before I perform or compose a new song for certain anime, I will go through the story of the anime by reading or watching it first.

I will then try to deliver what I felt from my understanding of the anime, with this, when performing, I will not be just merely singing but also delivering the right feelings and the messages of the anime. This is not an easy job, but I would like to continue loving my job and do my best in the future.

[I know this very well too!! ( ﾟヮﾟ) ]

Ceui: Music had play a large role in my life, music can be said to be a part of my life and its surrounding me along the way I grow.

Do you guys know Totoro? He’s one of my favourite anime and Totoro is the type of anime that I wish to perform my song for. It’s a great fantasy anime and I hope to be able to create this kind of environment and feeling for the audience.

Q3: Apart from Malaysia, where are the other places that you have been to perform your music?

Shimokawa: There are a few concerts that I held overseas like, Taipei, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Macau, Singapore, and Korea.

Ceui: During October, I went to Gao Xiong, Guangzhou and Hong Kong for the first live performances out from Japan.

[She's quite an fine lady huh? （　ﾟДﾟ）]

Q4: For an artist, which, non-Japanese, artist will you like to do a collaboration with?

[YAY! It's the most interesting question and it even makes me excited during this moment]

Shimokawa: I can’t really pick or specified anyone, since any great person who would collaborate with me to perform the song will be wonderful, to me and everyone. It is very difficult to pick a single name here.

[Ehhh!!？ (((( ；ﾟДﾟ)))... I thought it's me]

Ceui：I am interested in a group of youthful singers, the European choir group Libera, which is involved in gospel choir singing. I love their songs and hope to perform with these great singers.

Q5: How do Shimokawa-san and Ceui-san present their songs to the audience?

Ceui: By listening to the music, the spirit of one will be shaped by the mood of the music. By singing the song with joy and happiness, I hope my songs are able to influence the teen with the spirit I put in my songs.

I wish that my songs are able to brings them joy, and replenish their courage to continue their life journey, continue helping their friends too and spreading this kind of spirit.

Shimokawa: After the earthquake and tsunami hit Japan not too long ago, I had performed in several countries and what touched me is that, there are whole lot of support and concern from everyone around the world.

This is so touching that through the song, it is possible for the audience to learn about Japan and even in the hardest time for us, we are still getting our support from the world.

Q6: How you start with anime song and involving yourself in this field?

Shimokawa: When I was younger, I watched tons of animations and cartoons, which some of the anime are still on-going.

I am deeply interested in this field as I’m amazed with the production of the anime. Then one day a suggestion came for me to sing ani-song as it’s a very good fit for my voice.

Ceui: For me, I am similar to Shimokawa-san, only the difference is I didn’t expect myself to actually get involved in the ani-song field.

It just happened that there was a singer search for an anime and by a good chance; I was selected to be in the team for the anime project.

I have no idea about the anime field in the beginning, until I had actually watched the anime by myself, then I’m deeply touched by it. I am happy and grateful that I am actually able to help in creating the full anime production.

Q7: What anime would they recommend, apart from those you are singing for?

Shimokawa: I recommend the “K-on!” Do you all know K-on!?

Actually I am not aware the “K-on!”series, which is one of the famous anime.

[Whaaat?This is unbelievable! Σ(ﾟДﾟ)]

I learned that there’s this interesting music based anime from one of the magazine and started to check out this anime and the manga series.

I kept following K-on and realize that the urge to follow the K-on! storyline had become strong.

Ceui: I will recommend 3 of my favourite anime, which is the Haruhi series, including anime and the movie too, Kuroshitsuji, Itazura na Kiss which is more towards shojo animation.

[seems like Ceui-san is more towards the pretty-pretty character series huh? （・∀・
）

Q8 (BONUS QUESTION): Who is the hottest guy among us now? [During the interview session of course] （　^＾ω^＾）

*Seems like this question had put them in a really hard situation!*

Shimokawa: Ehhhh?? Well for me, someone who possess the trait of considerate, kind, and always bring me to a nice restaurant to have good food is the one I will considerate as a hottest guy.

Σ(ﾟДﾟ) !! The producer-san and assistant-san win it!

Ceui: For me, someone who looks like the character from Kuroshitjuji, Sebastian will be a hot guy from my own perception.

Σ Σ Σ (((ﾟДﾟ)))) !!!!!! I think it’s impossible for us to be one like him.

The interview session is supposed to be 20 minutes for all of us but it lasted longer than 20minutes which means it’s a great blessing for us to have more time with the great Mikuni Shimokawa and Ceui!

Let’s hope that they can perform in Comic Fiesta again! （・∀・

Comic Fiesta is an annual event held in Malaysia. What’s here? There are mainly from the creative art market where doujinshi and fan arts relating to anime and games are being shown or sold. There are also some anime commercial booths and of course, the COSPLAY! ＼(＾▽＾*)

I am shocked when seeing the amount of visitors at the Comic Fiesta this year. Certainly the amount of people had increased maybe doubled or even tripled, when compared with last year.

*Finally it’s reaching AFA scale huh?*

 It’s a hard time trying to squeeze myself into the ticketing hall to collect my pass….

WHATTT!!? ∑(O_O；)

It’s even more crowded inside here! Just take a look at the number of cosplayers and visitors, it’s totally overwhelmed!

And don’t mistaken; this is still not the event site, just the ticketing area! Being here certainly have the same atmosphere as AFA 2011 in Singapore.

Let us leave the ticket battlefield and move into the Comic Fiesta main event area.

Look! An autograph session for Gempak Starz, Malaysia’s manga community. All of them certainly have their own unique drawing style which you all can go to http://www.gempakstarz.com/ to read more about them!

Let’s take a look around the comic booth!

When going to Comic Fiesta, the thing that is a must for all visitors must be the COMIC! Here are some of the comic artists in the comic booth area. Just look at how serious they are, when committing in their crim….arts.

And here are some of the digital artists, performing their amazing drawing skill, live in front me!

Here’s an interesting booth, the artist is drawing a real person into as a chibi!! *drawing though* I wish I could have someone sponsor me for my own version of a chibi figure （・∀・）

As Danny Choo can’t attend Comic Fiesta, so his close friend Mr Freeman (http://twitter.com/#!/WiseFreeman), along with Malaysia’s Mirai to present Culture Japan Season 2 to the audience!

There were short previews on some episodes of Culture Japan Season 2 and of course, a short video clip from Danny Choo to audiences!

Counter strike!! Use to play it a lot in my younger days but I heard there’s a new version of Counter strike coming soon?

JEDI’s UNITED!!! If you wondered who these Jedi warrior are, http://www.fightsaber.com/ is the place where you should head to and maybe you might be interested to join them and train yourself to be another Jedi warrior like them. *Nope, I certainly would like to remain as an egg*

This guy seems to be a real fan from StarWars too, I had notice him because of the color of the armor and he didn’t move an inch at all for more than 30 minutes when I’m there.. *I SWEAR THIS!!!* ⊙▂⊙ Even when a hot gal is taking a photo with him…

The Cosplay Competition going on in Comic Fiesta, it’s kind of interesting as this year’s cosplay competition asked the contestant to perform on the stage with the theme given by the official.

Before I got in to the rest of the EOY11 items, I must emphasise how cute Hitomi from Akiba’s @Home Cafe is.

Her antics during the many appearances both on and off the stage, very easily outshone all the meido present during the event ne~ And I thought they are Kawaii too when I just arrive at the event.

She appeared at the VIP only lunch buffet, setting a Singapore meido record of powering up the whole Buffet lunch with the help of 15+ present.

She first appeared on the stage in her performances wear from Team JJ for her first set.

Before coming out to the event hall for an Autograph session and a game of Pimp Butler, the game that features her and many of the local blogosphere’s mascot.

She is then given a A1 size poster of the card featuring her. Of cos, she is overjoyed to have gotten it~

Followed by her second set on stage which she performed a number of songs, to the almost full hall, and then followed by the 13^th anniversary cake cutting for the EOY.

Followed by another round of autograph session, allowing everyone to meet, converse and shake her hand. Of cos the final few are the organisers with some of the most exclusive items you can find in the event.

Overall, the experiences is a mighty fine one and I don’t mind it again anytime soon~ Hitomi is really a very kawaii Meido, I can see why she is the top maid on streets of Akihabara. It can’t be helped, she really is very loveable~

During a short interview, she even mentioned that Pimp Butler is an interestingly fun game to play and will be bringing a deck home to play with.

Of cos the EOY committee gave her a packet for keepsake, who knows the next time you went to @Home Cafe they might just be playing it.
